PORT ANGELES — The inaugural Pacific Northwest Fiber Exposition will be this weekend at the Vern Burton Community Center in Port Angeles.
The expo — a free event with a craft marketplace, activities, demonstrations and a spinning circle — will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
“Our goal is to bring together all the talent and skills of the region to create a unique venue to celebrate the wide range of fiber related arts and crafts” said Beth Witters, marketing coordinator for the event.
“From spinning to felting, knitting to weaving, quilting to rug-hooking and more, we plan to showcase, demonstrate, instruct and inspire.”
This provides an opportunity for all ages to learn heritage craft skills and to connect with those who are passionate about fiber arts, she said.
Vendors and volunteers will demonstrate a variety of fiber arts throughout the weekend including machine felting, book binding, needlepoint, crochet, amigurumi, tapestry weaving, rug making, kumihimo, Cricut paper and fabric art, fiber preparation, art batts and macrame.
There will be hands-on activities for all age groups including spinning, weaving, wet felting, tie dye and paper ornaments, providing opportunities to learn more about the many forms of fiber art.
Paid workshops are planned both days. They include knitting, spinning, weaving, punch needle, rug hooking, wet felting, needle felting, kumihimo on a Maru Dai, Viking knitting and animal husbandry.

The Pacific Northwest Fiber Exposition coincides with the North Olympic Fiber Arts Festival in Sequim and the Fiber Arts Exhibit at Studio Bob’s in Port Angeles with a final showing from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
Funding of the exposition is made possible by a City of Port Angeles lodging tax grant and the Olympic Peninsula Visitors Bureau Tourism enhancement grant and donations from the community.
