PORT TOWNSEND — The pilot episode of “P-Town,” a physical-comedy, action-adventures series set in a fictionalized version of Port Townsend, makes its world premiere this Sunday.
Doors open for a no-host bar at 7:30 p.m., with the screening and a question-and-answer period at 8 p.m. and happy hour at 9 p.m., at the Key City Playhouse, 419 Washington St.
Entry is a suggested donation of $5 to $20. Limited seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
In the episode — produced by Port Townsend natives Tomoki Sage, Kiyota Sage, Chen Pollina, Michael McCurdy and Daniel Milholland — a bum, a ninja assassin and Steve team up to embark on adventures that wind them up in “alternate and fantastical realities … Improvising in the bathroom when you’re out of toilet paper and running water, dodging lasers when dumpster diving for tacos, panhandling with a smartphone” are just some of the situations they land themselves in, organizers said.
The Sages, Milholland and Pollina are all also members of the performing arts group NANDA, an “acrobaticalist ninja theatre troupe,” according to its website, www.nand atown.com. The four have collaborated on projects with McCurdy since producing a “mattress tag video” in 2012.
The group’s goal? To build up an audience base that will take their work “to the next level,” said Tomoki Sage, “P-Town” director, writer and actor.
“Our goal is to create a platform for story and characters to unfold while being able to throw in scenes, characters, bits and pieces of all kinds without breaking the stride of the story,” he said.
“We want ‘P-Town’ to support the arts, build community and expand the local economy,” said Milholland of Thunderball Productions.
More than 30 Port Townsend residents participated in the pilot’s production, including Deputy Fire Chief Ted Krysinski, owner of Fyerlite Grip and Lighting, who provided grip and lighting services; sound engineer and musician George Rezendes of Toolshed SoundLab with sound production; and regional musicians DJ Captain Peacock, Sam Rezendes and Crow Quill Night Owls.
