Out Loud Story Slam: ‘Try This’ at Olympic Theatre Arts

SEQUIM — The Out Loud Story Slam returns to Olympic Theatre Arts in Sequim at 7 p.m. Friday.

Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. in the gathering hall at Olympic Theatre Arts, 414 N. Sequim Ave.

Tickets are $15 online at olympictheatrearts.org, or $17 at the door if available; cash and card are accepted.

The theme for the evening is “Try This.” The event at the theater will be hosted by Nessa Goldman, who has recently been featured on the Story Collider and Risk! Podcasts.

She’ll be looking for 10 storytellers from the audience to share a five-minute true, personal story on the theme.

“Think about a time you took a gamble, maybe you tried everything, except this,” organizers said. “Or perhaps you always wanted to, but never thought you would, until you gave it a shot. Sometimes you just don’t know until you give it a try.

“If any of these prompts strike a chord, you might just have a story worth sharing.”

Storytelling isn’t just an opportunity to get on stage. Audience members get just as much from the events as tellers do, organizers said.

The idea is that tellers prepare their best stories, and the winners will go on to participate in a future Grand Slam.

Audience members can participate anonymously, or just enjoy the tales of the evening.

If you are interested in telling, or have been thinking about telling and would like a little more guidance, feel free to contact Out Loud Story Slam at outloud storyslam@gmail.com.
