‘Our Town’ wraps this weekend

PORT TOWNSEND — “Our Town,” the Pulitzer Prize-winning drama about appreciating life and love in a small community, has just three performances left in its run at Port Townsend High School.

With a cast and crew of teenagers from Port Townsend, Chimacum and Brinnon, the play takes the stage at 7 p.m. Friday and at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday.

Tickets at the door of the Port Townsend High School auditorium, 1500 Van Ness, are $10 for adults and $5 for students and seniors.

The drama “gets students to think about those simple things that make a big difference in our lives,” said director Kelly Doran.

Since Thornton Wilder wrote “Our Town” 81 years ago, it’s become one of the most-performed plays in history. This, Doran believes, is because Wilder’s words cut straight to the heart.

The production unfolds on sparse tables, chairs and ladders — nothing else.

The message: Focus on the people around you, and don’t get caught up in life’s unimportant details.
