Online auction major fundraiser for Community Players

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Community Players are conducting an online auction as part of the theater group’s annual winter major fundraiser.

The online auction began Saturday and will continue through Jan. 28.

“This year we are trying something new,” said Barb Frederick, president of the board for the Port Angeles Community Players (PACP), in a press release.

“Since the arrival of COVID, nonprofits have been exploring creative ways to continue to raise funds during times of uncertainty and public health scares,” she explained.

“Online auctions like ours have proven to be very successful, and we are very excited about the great offerings we have in ours.”

People wishing to see the auction catalog or bid on items can visit the Community Playhouse website at www.pacommunityplayers.org and click on the “Auction” link to be connected to a safe, secure professional auction site showcasing the 25 items available for bid.

Items in the auction include tickets to “Into the Woods” and “Sweeny Todd” at the 5th Avenue Theater in Seattle, a framed Chagall print, stays at local B&Bs and beachfront vacation accommodations in Costa Rica.

“We have a very nice downtown spa package which includes lunch, some great offerings for the guys as well as an RV B&B to go on a trip with and local offerings including theater tickets, coffee cards and a full season subscription to the Port Angeles Symphony,” Frederick said.

The PACP online auction raises funds for Playhouse capital projects that are not covered by their regular budget.

“The money we raise here goes into upgrades at the Playhouse, many of which our patrons will be able to see and enjoy,” Frederick said.

Auction items in the online catalog are able to be shared by social media so people can send auction item pictures and descriptions to family and friends who might be interested in a particular item so they can also bid on them.

“The beauty of an online auction is that you do not have to be at a specific place at a specific time to bid on something — you can support local theater in Port Angeles from across the country,” Frederick said.

Auction participants pay by credit card, and after Jan. 28, the highest bidders will be notified by phone or email and arrangements will be made to pick up the items or have them mailed to the bid winners.

The Port Angeles Community Players group is celebrating its 70th season as the second oldest performing arts organization in Port Angeles.
