PORT TOWNSEND — Northwind Art’s first Online Art Auction is in its last week, with bidding continuing on more than 50 works large and small.
The auction, on Northwind Art’s website at www. northwindart.org/gala, will close at 8 p.m. June 27. It’s a gathering of two- and three-dimensional artwork by makers on the Olympic Peninsula and beyond, with minimum bids as low as $20 for original pieces. Jewelry, photography, paintings, mixed media, sculpture, ceramics and collage are all part of the event.
The natural world, local places such as the Rose Theatre, faraway locales such as Maui, Hawaii, and a variety of animals are the subjects of the artwork up for bid.
Proceeds will benefit Northwind Art’s community programs and scholarships. These include free art exhibitions at Jeanette Best Gallery, 701 Water St., the free Aging Creatively program for people with memory loss, and financial assistance for adults and youth taking classes at Northwind Art School at Fort Worden State Park.
Since the Online Art Auction opened June 9, bidding has been on works by local artists, who include Linda Okazaki, the late Russell Jaqua, Elisabeth Mention, Seq Rodriguez, Glo Lamson, Elissa Greisz, Isabel Elena Pérez, Me’l Christensen, April Ottey, Meg Kaczyk, Corinne Humphrey, Diane Urbani de la Paz, Chris Witkowski, Diane Walker, Mitchel Osborne and others.
Indigenous Canadian artist Phil Ashbee, Seattle printmaker Charles Spitzack, Seattle painter Kelly Haejung Paik and Port Angeles painter Donna LaHue also have pieces in the auction.
At the Northwind Art website, art lovers can bid from anywhere in the world, or they can choose the buy-it-now option and purchase their chosen piece for its stated value.
