One-woman show highlights ties that bind

PORT TOWNSEND — Pamela Ziemann will perform her one-woman show, “These Roots Go Deep,” at 7 p.m. Saturday at Unity Port Townsend.

The suggested donation for the show at Unity at 3918 San Juan Ave. is $10 to $15.

Ziemann wrote “These Roots Go Deep” in collaboration with Nina Wise, who also directs.

The show is about a father/daughter relationship that opens a window to life on a Minnesota farm where farmers are told to “go big or get out,” according to a press release.

Ziemann reveals her struggle of wanting to maintain the bond she has with her father while being true to her own values — from age 8, where she easily goes along with his views to the growing tension of being a teenager with her own wants and needs.

As life goes on, religion, racism and corporate greed are examined.

“It’s been deeply moving to see how touched people are by this show,” Ziemann said. “Many audience members have returned to see the show multiple times contemplating their own lives and making major shifts because of it.”

She’s performed this show at United Solo in New York City, Chicago, Seattle, Tucson and Canadian fringe festivals as well as the Center for Spiritual Living in Visalia, Calif., Fairmont Opera House in Minnesota and the Rialto Theater in Pocahontas, Iowa.
