Olympic Theatre Arts offers free improv class this Thursday

SEQUIM — Olympic Theatre Arts will offer a free improvisation class, “IMPROV for everyone,” from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday.

The class at the theater at 414 N. Sequim Ave. will be taught by Bill Thomas, founder of The Possibilities group, which brings improv to the corporate workplace, and stand-up comedian Michael Schmitt, who owns Enertia Improv in Port Angeles.

“Improv is a great tool for the actor and the layman alike. It sharpens listening skills and develops a quick wit, which is what makes it so much fun,” Thomas said.

“We look forward to playing with a new group of people at Olympic Theatre Arts and really exploring the comedic aspects of the craft.”

Following this inaugural session, OTA will offer continuous weekly classes every Thursday for two hours. Participants will pay $20 at the door.

Executive Director Carol Willis hopes to eventually expand the course into performances, allowing participants to show off the improvisational skills they’ve acquired.

“After we get going, we hope to offer live performance opportunities for those participants who are interested on First Fridays during the Sequim Art Walk,” Willis said.

For more information, contact the OTA business office from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays at 360-683-7326.
