Olympic Theatre Arts slates auditions for December show

SEQUIM — Olympic Theatre Arts will conduct auditions for a December show this weekend, “Another Night Before Christmas.”

Auditions will take place at Olympic Theatre Arts, 414 N. Sequim Ave., from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday.

Those trying out should be prepared to sing a representative number from a Broadway show that demonstrates range and technique. They also will be asked to perform some cold readings from the show. An accompanist will be provided.

Callback auditions may be scheduled following Monday’s auditions.

“Another Night Before Christmas” is a two-act, two-person comedy with book and lyrics by Sean Grennan and music by Leah Okimoto.

The story takes place entirely on a Christmas Eve and revolves around “Karol,” a disillusioned social worker in her late 30s or early 40s who has given food to a seemingly homeless man (“The Guy”) in the park.

A short time later, he breaks into her home claiming to be Santa Claus. As she struggles to convince him that he is not Santa, she comes to learn that she is not the person she thought she was.

This production will be directed by Dan DePrez with musical direction by Steven Humphrey and will run Dec. 13-22 in the Gathering Hall at Olympic Theatre Arts.

The music is sophisticated Broadway beltstyle. The numbers range from ballads to upbeat rock.

The two parts are:

• Karol Elliot — (late 30s, early 40s) Broadway belt. Vocal range: E(3) to E(5).

• The Guy: (ageless) Broadway tenor. Vocal range: B(3) to G#(4).

Auditioners who are called back will be given a number from the show to work on and present.
