SEQUIM — When it comes to filling out the lineup for the cast of Olympic Theatre Arts’ Holiday Variety Show, director Cathy Marshall and musical director Karen Pritchard are looking for exactly that: variety.
The pair are seeking performers ranging from ages 8 to 80 with talents in singing, dancing and/or acting when they host auditions from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Olympic Theatre Arts Center, 414 N. Sequim Ave.
“Even a juggler or two might be nice, or perhaps a violinist, tuba player, trombonist, etc.” Marshall said. “It is an eclectic show, and we are looking for excellent, eclectic performers.”
Production material for the variety show was adapted by Jerry L. Stewart from various sources and includes scenes and music from such holiday favorites as “How the Grinch Stole Christmas,” “The Gift of the Magi,” “Babes in Toyland” and others.
There will be numerous opportunities for singers to perform. Those who audition for singing roles should be prepared to sing a song of choice. A piano accompanist will be available to play sheet music if provided; an instrumental track on CD or MP3 also may be used.
Actors who audition will be asked to read cold from the script. Musicians and other performers should bring whatever might be needed to demonstrate their talents.
The production will run for one weekend, with five performances Dec. 7-10.
Participants also should be available to perform for the OTA fundraising event “O’Tannenbaum Affair,” to be held Nov. 18 — during which certain segments of the “Holiday Variety Show” will be showcased.
