PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Fine Arts Center will host an opening reception for “Home — The Essence of Place” on Friday.
The reception will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the center at 1203 E. Lauridsen Blvd. Attendees can meet the artists and have light refreshments. It is free with donations welcome.
The exhibit, which focuses on the Olympic region’s landscapes and inhabitants, will be on display through Oct. 29.
“Home — The Essence of Place” is a collaborative exhibition between the Port Angeles Fine Arts Center (PAFC) and Olympic Peninsula Art Association (OPAA).
The artwork was selected by jurors Renne Emiko Brock, Marina Shipova and Ross Brown representing OPAA and Susan Hamilton, Monic Gutierrez-Quarto and Garrett Grove representing the PAFAC.
The exhibit features paintings, prints, sculptures and photographs by 29 artists. The artists on display are Port Angeles artists Andrea Woods, Anne Pfeiffer, Chris Kleinfelter, Cody Wise Hagen, Clea Rome, Ernst-Ulrich Schafer, Eva McGinnis, Roger McGinnis, Ines Epperson, Jack Galloway, Jodi Riverstone, Karen Lavender Peterson, Rosie Sharpe, Thompson Holmes and Tracy Beals; Anne Milligan, Catherine Mix, Cathy Stanfield, Eva Kozun, Hattie Kauffman, Kathie Cook, and Lauren Churchill of Sequim; Kerry Tremain, Madeline Nelson, Mary O’Shaughnessy, Scott Pascoe and Shelley Jaye of Port Townsend; Laveta Bowen of Hoquiam; and Yukio Iraha of Carlsborg.
An ekphrastic poetry reading is planned at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 5. Poets are being invited to view the works, write about pieces that speak to them and send submissions to the center by Wednesday next week. A selection of the submissions will be read aloud by the authors in the gallery on Oct. 5.
“Olympic Peninsula Art Association is pleased to collaborate with the Port Angeles Fine Arts Center to present this exhibit celebrating the unique beauty of our peninsula home. Part of our mission is to encourage and showcase art in our community and this show does just that. Please come visit and celebrate with us,” said Deborah Young, president of OPAA.
Much of the artwork in the show will be available for purchase. Artwork sold through the Fine Arts Center supports both the artist and helps to sustain the programs, exhibits and educational offerings of the Port Angeles Fine Arts Center. Portions of the sales from this exhibit also will go to OPPA.
