PORT TOWNSEND — The Olympic Music Festival returns to Fort Worden State Park this weekend with a single live concert: the GardenMusic ensemble and their program ranging from classical to jazz to bluegrass and beyond.
The place is Littlefield Green, the lawn beside McCurdy Pavilion, and the start time is 2 p.m. Sunday.
Tickets are on sale online through today at olympicmusic festival.org. Some tickets may be available at the gate if they have sold out online.
All concert-goers should bring camp chairs and picnic blankets to spread out on the grass.
GardenMusic, known for crossing genre boundaries, is led by Louisville Orchestra Music Director Teddy Abrams and includes violinist Tessa Lark, bassoonist and violinist-composer Harrison Hollingsworth, double bassist and vocalist Nathan Farrington and percussionist Gabriel Globus-Hoenich.
This Sunday’s kickoff is a prelude to the festival’s Virtual Salon Concerts: free performances to be streamed at 5 p.m. Sundays and at 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays from Sept. 5-22.
These online events feature discussions with performers, including festival artistic director Julio Elizalde; he’ll give a piano recital of works by Chopin and Debussy at 5 p.m. Sept. 5.
“We’ve assembled a truly special group of artists that will bring the music we love back to life at a time when we need it the most,” Elizalde said in his announcement of the festival.
“I am personally dedicating this season to the countless frontline workers who kept us safe for over a year,” he added.
“I hope that these concerts will bring comfort and joy to listeners both in person and at home.”
