Olympic Music Festival fellows to host concert this weekend

PORT TOWNSEND — The Olympic Music Festival will continue its summer season with concerts at 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

The concerts will be in Wheeler Theater at Fort Worden State Park, 200 Battery Way, Port Townsend.

Tickets are $20 to $60 per person at www.olympicmusicfestival.org/2025-concerts.

All vehicles must display a Discover Pass in parking areas on Fort Worden. Passes may be purchased on site.

This weekend’s program will feature Olympic Music Festival fellows Ria Honda, violin; Jeremy Klein, viola; K.J. McDonald, violin; Annie Hyung, cello; and Andrew Chen, piano.

They will be mentored for two chamber concerts by violinist Ray Chen, violist Dimitri Murrath, cellist Matthew Zalkind and pianist Julio Elizalde.

Saturday’s program, “Romantic Reflections,” will include “Passacaglia in G minor on a Theme by Handel” by the Norwegian composer Johan Halvorsen, Johannes Brahms’ Piano Quartet No. 3 in C minor, Op. 60 and Antonín Dvořák’s Piano Trio No. 3 in F minor, Op. 65.

On Sunday, the festival will present “Voyage From Paris to St. Petersburg,” featuring Ernest Chausson’s “Poème,” Op. 25 for Violin, Piano, and String Quartet, Gabriel Fauré’s Piano Quartet No. 2 in G minor, Op. 45 and Souvenir de Florence for String Sextet, Op. 70 by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky.

Concerts on Aug. 23 and 24 will see the Olympic Music Festival’s fellows mentored by Alexander Fiterstein, clarinet; Jessica Lee, violin; Matthew Zalkind, cello; and Julio Elizalde, piano.

The concert on Aug. 23, “Beethoven the Visionary,” will feature music by Beethoven, Brahms and Schubert.

On Aug. 24, “Revolutionary Titans” will include works by Stravinsky, Shostakovich, Prokofiev and Ravel.

On Aug. 30-31, the festival will close with “Chamber Music Masters” featuring violinists Steven Copes and Sandy Yamamoto, violist Jonathan Vinocour, cellist Efe Baltacıgil and pianists Julio Elizalde and Robert McDonald.

The Aug. 30 concert, “Dark Passions,” will include works by Ades, Rachmaninoff and Franck.

The season finale, “Tempest and Triumph,” on Aug. 31, will feature works by Schubert, Brahms and Dvorak.
