Olympic Chamber Music fellows to perform at Fort Worden State Park

PORT TOWNSEND — This weekend will be your last opportunity to watch Olympic Chamber Music fellows — “five exceptionally talented young musicians from around the world” — perform at Fort Worden State Park.

The fellows, along with other world-class musicians, will perform concerts Saturday and Sunday at Wheeler Theater in the park, 200 Battery Way.

The fellows are Max Tan (violin), Adelya Nartadjieva (violin), SoHui Yun (viola) and Ari Evan (cello).

On Saturday at 2 p.m., “From Beethoven” illustrates Beethoven’s influence over younger generations, particularly over Schumann and Schoenberg in the romantic era. Doors open at 1 p.m.

The program includes Beethoven Piano Quartet in E-flat major, Op. 16; , and Schumann Piano Quintet in E-flat major, Op. 44. At the heart of the program is Schoenberg’s “Verklärte Nacht” (“Transfigured Night”) for string sextet.

Tickets for “From Beethoven” cost $33 for the back theater section and $40 for the front theater section. Children ages 7 to 12 enter free, but you must reserve seats. Tickets can be purchased at www.brownpapertickets.com/event/2940238.

The link also allows the purchase of tickets for “Twilight in Paris” at 2 p.m. Sunday for the same prices. The concert’s program features Poulenc’s Violin Sonata (1943); Debussy’s String Quartet in G minor, Op. 10; Ravel’s “Ma Mere l’Oye” (“Mother Goose”) for piano, four hands (1910); and Faure’s Piano Quartet No. 1 in C minor, Op. 15.

“Twilight in Paris” will depict the creative renaissance, in which French composers challenged the limits of romanticism.
