Northwinds Homeschool Band to perform free concert

PORT ANGELES — The Northwinds Homeschool Band will perform in a free concert at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

The concert will be at Independent Bible Church, 116 Ahlvers Road.

Led by director Dan Tutton, the evening will include music from multiple performance groups, featuring several levels of the Northwinds Homeschool Concert and Jazz Bands, respectively.

The performances will include both Latin and swing jazz tunes, as well as holiday favorites.

Trumpet player Adam Kennedy and saxophonist Tristan Lowman will perform in Tuesday’s concert. Each was awarded an Outstanding Musician Award at the Clark College Jazz Festival in January for their instrumental solos.

The entire Jazz Band placed first in the 1-A Division at the Clark College Jazz Festival.

The group competed against both public and private schooled students at the Vancouver festival. The high school 1-A Division is made of schools with up to 525 students in 10th through 12th grades.

The Northwinds Jazz and Concert Bands participated in the Anaheim Heritage Festival last year, a competition with schools from around the nation. There they received three gold awards, a silver award, a maestro award and two adjudicator awards. Additional performances included Disneyland, and the Segerstrom Center for the Arts, a Festival of Gold invitation-only event.

The Northwinds Band is comprised of more than 70 local private and home-schooled students from the Port Angeles and Sequim areas.
