Northwind to host Clark, Rubin on Thursday

PORT TOWNSEND — The Northwind Reading Series will feature Kevin Clark and Stan Sanvel Rubin at 7 p.m. Thursday.

The suggested donation will be $5 at the Northwind Arts Center, 701 Water St.

Clark’s “Self-Portrait with Expletives” won the Pleiades Press contest. His first book of poems, “In the Evening of No Warning,” earned a grant from the Academy of American Poets.

His most recent chapbook, “The Wanting,” won the Five Oaks Press contest.

Clark’s poetry appears widely in such journals as The Georgia Review, Ploughshares, Iowa Review, Gulf Coast and Crazyhorse.

A regular critic for The Georgia Review, he publishes criticism in many venues, including The Southern Review and Contemporary Literary Criticism. He teaches the Rainier Writing Workshop.

Rubin has served as director of the SUNY Brockport Writers Forum & Video Library and co-founding director of the Rainier Writing Workshop low-residency Master of Fine Arts program.

His poems have appeared widely in magazines including The Georgia Review, Kenyon Review, Poetry Northwest, The Laurel Review, The Iowa Review, and most recently, American Journal of Poetry, One, Watershed Review, Apple Valley Review, Red Savina Review and Hubbub.

His fourth full-length collection, “There. Here.,” was published by Lost Horse Press in 2013.

His third, “Hidden Sequel,” won the Barrow Street Press Poetry Book Prize.

He writes essay reviews of poetry for “Water-Stone Review.”

Northwind is a nonprofit organization that sponsors visual, musical and literary art events and education on the Olympic Peninsula
