NorthWest Women’s Chorale to present music with water theme

PORT ANGELES — The NorthWest Women’s Chorale will present “Wade in the Watah,” its spring concert, in Sequim and Port Angeles.

Performances are set for 7 p.m. tonight at Dungeness Valley Lutheran Church, 925 N. Sequim Ave., and 7 p.m. Monday at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 301 E. Lopez Ave., Port Angeles.

Admission to both concerts is a suggested donation of $15, payable at the door.

The concert program features Gwyneth Walker’s cantata “Lessons from the Sea” based on the book “Gift from the Sea” by Anne Morrow Lindbergh (1906-2001). The remainder of the program covers a range of styles, from classical to spiritual to folk music, each piece relating to water. And of course the engaging sing-a-long.

Guest narrator for these two Northwest Women’s Chorale performances is Diane Urbani de la Paz, a writer/reporter who provides stories and photos and a column to the Peninsula Daily News and a supporter of the arts.

The NorthWest Women’s Chorale has been singing harmony in performances locally and regionally for 11 years. The 28 members of NWWC come from areas west of Joyce to east of Sequim.

Leading the NorthWest Women’s Chorale is Joy Lingerfelt, who is also a deacon and minister of music and worship arts at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Port Angeles. She also directs the Port Angeles Symphony Chorus.

Accompanying the chorale is pianist Kristin Quigley Brye, an adjunct professor of music at Peninsula College and collaborative pianist with the NorthWest Women’s Chorale and owner of a private music studio.
