PORT ANGELES — The Northwest Women’s Chorale will present its spring concert, “Still, We SING,” celebrating getting back to singing again after a three-year hiatus, on Monday.

The performance will be at 7 p.m. Monday at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 301 E. Lopez Ave., Port Angeles.

Admission is a suggested donation of $15, payable at the door. More information can be found at www.nwwomenschorale.org or by emailing: info@ nwwomenschorale.org.

Once some of the Covid restrictions were lifted, the chorale eased into singing by gathering for rehearsals last summer and fall, meeting once a month, wearing masks.

“Everyone needed to dust off the pipes and exercise the vocal muscles slowly and carefully,” according to a press release. “And it was a joyful time, just to sing together once again.”

The Chorale then resumed weekly rehearsals in January.

The concerts’ program begins with songs from our early American heritage that are invitational in nature — welcoming all to the concert. The next section looks outward to the world and humanitarian concerns and allows for some reflection.

One piece is written by, and then arranged specifically for the chorale, Linda Dowdell, a Sequim composer, bandleader and musical arranger.

During the pandemic, Dowdell wanted to” keep her brain alive,” she thought as she signed up for an online lyric-writing course.

The assignment was to pen a song about victory. Dowdell did some research and learned of a local triumph and then set the lyrics to music.

The concert will conclude with a piece of gospel music and a traditional Irish blessing.

Leading the NorthWest Women’s Chorale is Joy Lingerfelt, a retired deacon, and minister of music and worship arts at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Port Angeles. She also directs the Port Angeles Symphony Chorus, which soon presents its fourth joining with the symphony orchestra on May 19-20.

Accompanying the chorale is collaborative pianist Kristin Quigley Brye, an adjunct professor of music at Peninsula College, and collaborative pianist with the NorthWest Women’s Chorale, owner of a private music studio, and musical director at First United Methodist Church in Port Angeles.

Since 2007, the NorthWest Women’s Chorale has performed in Alaska, and across Washington state in Lynnwood, Silverdale, Poulsbo, Port Townsend, Chehalis and Forks. The 22 members come from areas west of Joyce to east of Sequim.

The Chorale is the Resident Chorale at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Port Angeles and it’s their mission to sing harmony into our lives.
