Nikles, Canote to perform at Candlelight Concerts series

PORT TOWNSEND — Bobbi Nikles and Jeri Canote will perform at the Candlelight Concerts series at 7 p.m. Thursday.

The series, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 609 Taylor St. in Port Townsend, also is simulcast on KPTZ FM 91.9 and streams at www.trinity umcpt.org.

The concert is free, although a donation of $15 per person is requested.

Half of the donations will benefit Olympic Angels, whose mission is to support families in the foster care community through relationship building and mentorship.

Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. Masks are encouraged for in-person attendees.

Nikles is a Port Townsend-based fiddler who has performed in a genres including old-time, Irish, jazz and contradance.

Nikles has written articles on bowing technique and instrument evaluation for Strings magazine and has been on staff at the YEA Music! program and at Centrum’s Festival of American Fiddletunes.

She also performs the closing music for the Cats in our Laps program on KPTZ.

Canote began singing and playing guitar with his twin brother Greg, as the Canote Brothers, while in high school in California.

After moving to the Puget Sound area in the early 1980s, they performed for nearly two decades with dance caller and musician Sandy Bradley at festivals and a weekly live radio show on KUOW.

Canote and Mikles specialize in lively fiddle tunes, antique swing, blues and country songs.
