New tastes, sips added to Taste of Port Townsend menu

PORT TOWNSEND — The annual Taste of Port Townsend has added new tastes and sips for this year’s event from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday.

Samples and sips from 13 area restaurants and eight breweries, wineries and cideries will be offered at the Northwest Maritime Center at 431 Water St.

Tickets are $55 for both food and alcohol tastes. They are $40 for food-only.

The tickets can be purchased at www.eventbrite.com or at Safeway, 442 W. Sims Way.

Tickets purchased by today will provide guests early entry to the event at 5 p.m. Tickets sold at the door will begin at 6 p.m. if available.

New participants this year are Howell’s Sandwich Co., offering Birds the Word sandwiches; The Castle in PT which will have tastes of a stewed brisket curry; Alchemy Bistro & Wine Bar, which will offer local wild mushrooms sauteed in a special sauce in a polenta crust; and Discovery Bay Brewing, with an IPA and Red among its sips.

A favorite that will return this year is the Silverwater Cafe, which provides the menu for the Starlight Room of the Rose Theatre. The owners of the Silverwater, Alison and David Hero, have participated in every Taste of Port Townsend since it began n 1991.

It will offer crab cakes with chipotle aioli as well as coconut curry marinated chicken.

Other participants are Key City Fish Co., Aldrich’s Market, Taps at the Guardhouse, Reveille at the Commons, Pane d’ Amore, Banana Leaf Thai Bistro, Elevated Ice Cream Co. & Candy Shop, Finistere, The Old Whiskey Mill, Alpenfire Cider, Finnriver Farm and Cidery, Marrowstone Vineyards, Port Townsend Brewing Co., Port Townsend Vineyards, Sunrise Coffee Co., and The Spice and Tea Exchange.

Tastes will include sushi, bacon-wrapped scallops, fish and chips, knish, cheddar jalapeno scones, handmade chocolates, and other treats as well as tea, coffee and local cider, wine, beer.

Raffle tickets can be purchased at the event for $10 each. The winner will receive a food-themed gift basket with treats, gifts and gift certificates donated by local businesses.

The Taste of Port Townsend is sponsored by Key City Fish Co., Sysco and participating businesses.

The Tastes of Port Townsend is a signature fundraiser for The Port Townsend Main Street Program, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

The program’s mission is to preserve, promote, and enhance the historic business districts.
