PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Library will host the exhibit “Native Voices: Native Peoples’ Concepts of Health and Illness” beginning Thursday.
The traveling exhibit will be on display at the library at 2210 S. Peabody St. through July 31.
The exhibit, developed by the National Library of Medicine, explores the inter-connectedness of wellness, illness and cultural life for Native Americans, Alaska Natives and Native Hawaiians.
In conjunction with this exhibit, the library also will host three special programs.
They are:

Kerr, Jamestown S’Klallam tribal elder, will discuss the when, where and what of native plants along with how to turn them into medicine and nutrition.
• Charlotte Coté’s “Hishuk’ish Tsawalk – Everything Is One: Revitalizing Northwest Coast Indigenous Food Systems” at 6:30 p.m. July 12.
Coté will discuss how Northwest coast indigenous peoples are actively engaging in decolonization and self-determination through the enactment of food sovereignty.
• Monique Gray Smith’s “Discovering the Stories Within Us” at 6:30 p.m. July 18.
Smith will explain how she captures ideas, moments and feelings and turns them into stories for both young and not-so-young readers.
