National juried exhibit opens at Port Angeles Fine Arts Center

PORT ANGELES — “Resilient & Creative,” a national juried exhibition, opens today at the Port Angeles Fine Arts Center (PAFAC), and the public is invited to a reception with several of the contributing artists from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Admission is free to the event and to the show, open through Sept. 26 at the PAFAC, 1203 E. Lauridsen Blvd. Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursdays through Sundays.

Members of the PAFAC are also invited to tonight’s VIP members’ hour from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. This includes a presentation by Gallery and Program Director Sarah Jane at 5:30 p.m. To become a member and find out about the center’s many activities, see PAFAC.org.

“Resilient & Creative” showcases nearly 80 artworks by 42 artists from throughout the United States. The Olympic Peninsula is well-represented by local artists Helga Winter, Elisabeth Mention, Meg Kaczyk and Judith Bird from Port Townsend; David Willis, Ryoko Toyama, Allyne Lawson and Mary DePaolo from Sequim; and Carmen Czachor, Laura Garrard, Carmen Germain, Monica Gutierrez-Quarto, Pamela Hastings, Loreen Matsushima, Rachel McElhose, Eva and Roger McGinnis, Ellie Polk and Jodi Riverstone from Port Angeles.

Visitors will find photography, collage, watercolor, oil paintings, pencil and ink works, fused glass and other mixed media art.

“Many pieces are aesthetically beautiful, and all demonstrate artistic skill, but what stands out most for me is the real sense of hardship and struggle reflected in these artworks,” Jane said in a press release.

“All the art will be for sale,” she added, “starting at just $60, and most pieces priced under $500.”
