Musical Christmas classics slated for chorus concert

SEQUIM — The Sequim Community Christmas Chorus will perform tonight, Saturday and Sunday.

Performances are 7:30 tonight and at 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Sequim Seventh-day Adventist Church, 30 Sanford Lane.

Tickets will be available at the door for a suggested $5 donation. Children younger than 12 will be admitted free.

The chorus will present a program of Christmas favorites such as the “Hallelujah Chorus,” “Peace, Peace,” and “Rise up Shepherd.”

Also planned is a tribute to the 200th anniversary of the Christmas classic, “Silent Night,” featuring soloist Wes Funkhouser and 10-year-old soprano soloist Ava Peterson.

Sequim Community Christmas Chorus, now in its 34th season, is under the direction of Louise Pluymen, whose musical career includes performances as a soprano soloist with the Seattle Symphony, Dallas Symphony and Florida Philharmonic.

A newcomer to Sequim, Pluymen lived and worked for many years in the Netherlands, where she conducted several award-winning vocal ensembles.

Talented pianist Kayla (Dyment) Layer will accompany the chorus.

Layer teaches piano in her Sequim studio and works as a professional accompanist.

John Zuerner, on oboe, will also return to accompany.

Again this year, the chorus will make a donation to the Sequim Community Orchestra’s Kids’ Strings Program, which was the recipient of its $1,500 donation last year. This program introduces elementary school children to music.
