Music, storytelling, art and plays on Peninsula this weekend

Entertainment abounds in Clallam, Jefferson counties

Among the entertainment options tonight through Sunday: an in-person story slam, a spontaneous-painting contest and a band called Anderson Lake Swamp Thing.

Those are just three of the choices on the North Olympic Peninsula during this Super Bowl-pre-Valentine’s Day weekend. Here’s a cross-section.

• Vocalist Sarah Shea performs this evening at the Port Townsend Vineyards Vintage wine bar at 725 Water St., Port Townsend. Jazz and music from the Great American Songbook will flow from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. with no cover charge.

• The “Out Loud” Story Slam welcomes listeners and storytellers tonight at Studio Bob, 118½ E. Front St., Port Angeles.

Tellers are invited to share true, personal tales on the theme of “after dark,” however they interpret it.

Those interested in performing drop their names into the hat at the beginning of the night — doors open at 6:30 p.m. — and if their names are drawn, they step onstage to tell their five-minute stories.

Tickets are $10 at the door, with cash and cards accepted; show time is 7 p.m.

All guests at Studio Bob must wear masks and show proof of full vaccination or a negative PCR test from a lab within 72 hours of tonight’s slam.

• “Angel Street (Gaslight),” a Victorian drama of suspense, opens tonight at Olympic Theatre Arts, 414 N. Sequim Ave., Sequim.

Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays through Feb. 27, with student tickets at $12 and regular tickets at $18.

For details, see www.olympictheatrearts.org or phone 360-683-7326.

• A Valentine’s pop-up market starts today and runs through Sunday at the One of a Kind Gallery inside the Port Angeles Wharf, 115 E. Railroad Ave. in Port Angeles.

More than 30 local artists will offer their creations while featured painter Ashley Morgan (on Instagram whatdwellsbeneath) creates a permanent mural in the hallway outside.

Market hours are 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. today and Saturday and 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.

• A dance party on the land, replete with a DJ, food and drink, happens this evening at the Finnriver Cider Garden, 124 Center Road, Chimacum, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

There’s a $5 cover while more information is found at finnriver.com under Farm Events.

• The Brush Off, a live painting contest, happens Saturday night at Studio Bob, 118 ½ E. Front St. in downtown Port Angeles.

This means doors open at 5 p.m. and painters — of any level — can enter their names into the hat for a chance to paint one of six Brush Off panels starting at 7 p.m.

The public is invited to come and enter art subjects into another hat. Painters whose names are drawn each get 20 minutes to set up and paint their panels. When all six panels have been painted, the audience picks the best-in-show winner.

Studio Bob provides brushes and acrylic paint while refreshments are available for purchase from the bar. Proof of vaccination is required at the door, admission is free and nice dogs are welcome.

Sunday from noon to 3 p.m., the Brush Off panels will be on display for all to see, and in a few weeks, they will be attached to Studio Bob’s exterior wall.

For more information, phone Bob Stokes at 415-990-0457, find studio.bob on Instagram or see www.facebook.com/studiobobupstairs.

• Anderson Lake Swamp Thing brings old-time fiddle, hill-country blues guitar and bluegrass banjo to the Finnriver Cider Garden, 124 Center Road, Chimacum, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday; cover charge is $5.

“Sea Tales on a Winter’s Eve” features Emiliano Marino’s dramatic reading of “Sailing Alone around the World” at the Artful Sailor, 410 Washington St., Port Townsend, at 6 p.m. Sunday.

Admission is by donation. More details await at 360-344-8120 and www.theartfulsailor.com.

• A pre-Valentine’s Day dance features the Mark Holman Combo at the Sequim Elks Lodge, 143 Port Williams Road, Sequim, from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Sunday.

Admission is $12 for guests of Elks and $10 for Elks members; all must wear masks.
