‘More Fun Than Bowling’ play auditions set

Port Angeles Community Players welcomes actors Sunday

PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles Community Players will hold auditions for the quirky, funny and mysterious “More Fun Than Bowling” from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

Auditions will be at the Port Angeles Community Playhouse, 1235 E. Lauridsen Blvd.

Auditions also were conducted Thursday.

Copies of the script are available for preview at both the Port Angeles and Sequim public libraries.

Roles are available for two women able to play late 20s to early 30s, a female who can play 16, and two men age 25 to 50.

The play, written by Steven Dietz and directed by Kristin Ulsund, is about Jake, who owns the bowling alley in a small Midwestern town.

He is sitting on a hilltop where two of his three wives are buried. Lois was zapped by lightning while carrying a bowling trophy in a thunderstorm and Loretta was killed by a ball return machine.

In his younger days, Jake was a promising concert musician but a foul tip baseball broke his fingers which subsequently healed into a perfect bowler’s grip.

Jake replays the key frames of his life and, from time to time, is visited by his daughter Molly who has become adept at talking women into marrying her father for love and free lane time.

“But who is that nattily dressed man with dark glasses and a revolver lurking nearby?” the community players press release said.

Performances will be April 20-May 10 on Friday, Saturday and Tuesday nights and Sunday afternoons.
