‘Moby Dick’ reading set for Sea Tales on a Winter’s Eve

Port Townsend event planned for Sunday

PORT TOWNSEND — Excerpts from “Moby Dick” will be read aloud as The Artful Sailor hosts its third annual Sea Tales on a Winter’s Eve at 4 p.m. Sunday.

The reading will be in the shop at 410 Washington St., near the skatepark.

Seating is limited. Those who want to attend are urged to call to reserve seats.

A folding chair and a donation of $20 are suggested.

Author, actor and sailor Emiliano Marino will read from Herman Melville’s epic tale of life aboard a New England whale ship in the 1800s and the quest of an obsessed captain to wreak revenge upon a notorious white whale.

“At once realistic and fantastical, ‘Moby Dick’ connects us with the heart and spirit of Captain Ahab, his colorful crew and the white sperm whale himself,” organizers said.

A portion of the proceeds will go directly to the Puget Sound Orca Conservancy and their projects for Southern Resident orca recovery in the Pacific Northwest.

The reading will be in two parts with a short break during which “meager rations” will be provided, organizers said.

For more information or to reserve a seat, call 360-344-8120 or visit www.theartfulsailor.com.
