Mini Comic Con returns to Chimacum on Saturday

CHIMACUM — The Olympic Peninsula Mini Comic Con will come to the Tri-Area Community Center on Saturday.

Admission to the convention at the Community Center, 10 West Valley Road, is $5 or $3 with a non-perishable food item for a local food bank.

The event will feature vendors selling comic books, toys, collectibles and other items along with various comic and art creators from around the region.

According to organizers, there also will be limited space for gamers to hang out and play their favorite tabletop games and make new friends.

The show will also feature a pair of comic book creators with work featured in some of the top comic book publishers in the world including a guest of honor, Jeremy Colwell and special guest Blacky Shepherd along with area creators.

Colwell is a comic colorist currently working on the Batman and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles crossover series, which just launched the third volume of DC and IDW Comics.

The Batman/TMNT series is one of the hottest selling comics on the market today, according to organizers.

This year also marks the 80th anniversary of Batman and 35th anniversary of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Shepherd also is working on a comic franchise celebrating a milestone, Vampirella.

That iconic character turns 50 this year, and Shepherd is creating the art on one of the multiple Vampirella ongoing series for Dynamite Comics.

He has worked on other comic franchises such as Voltron and G.I. Joe.

Organizers said the Chimacum event is family-friendly and they encourage dressing up as favorite characters and superheroes.
