COYLE — Michele D’Amour and the Love Dealers will perform in the Concerts in the Woods series at 3 p.m. Sunday, weather permitting.
“This will be the third appearance of Michele D’Amour and the Love Dealers in Coyle,” said series organizer Norm Johnson.
“I love having them play here because they not only have such an authentic blues sound but also they have so much fun playing it. That energy and joy is contagious and quickly spreads to the audience who then goes home feeling that same way.
“My favorite song of Michele’s is ‘Dress Code,’ which contains the line, ‘We don’t wear spandex in the blues.’ ”
The concert will be at the Laurel B. Johnson Community Center, 923 Hazel Point Road. Admission will be by donation. Complimentary cookies and coffee will be served at intermission.
The band is made up of D’Amour, lead vocals and songwriter; her husband, Patrick McDanel, bass and backing vocals; Jeff Cornell, guitar; and Chris Lucier, drums.
D’Amour wrote her first song (a blues) at the age of 6 and was a published poet by her early 20s.
McDanel is a veteran of the national music scene, having played with notable bands and acts as either a regular player or fill-in. One of his favorite moments was playing at the Apollo Theater in the ’90s.
Born and raised in Iowa, Cornell began playing guitar at 12 while housebound with chicken pox. He saw a Van Halen video on MTV, found his dad’s old acoustic, and started learning to play. He moved to Seattle in 1995.
Lucier began playing drums in 1994 when a family friend stored his drums at their house.
He said he performed a “dumbed-down version” of Niel Peart’s drum solo for my fifth-grade talent show as the finale.
“And I remember the moment very clearly, when I finished, watched the whole room stand up and start screaming, and I knew exactly what I wanted to do with the rest of my life.”
The band has produced “Wiggle Room,” 2018; “Lost Nights at the Leopard Lounge,” 2017; “Ante Up,” 2015 and “Sin Comin’ On, 2014.
It was named the LA Music Critic’s Best Blues Band last month In 2015, it was selected for rotation on STEAM Magazine Radio in April and in May, “Ante Up” was one of four CDs chosen by International Blues Broadcasters (IBBA) as Pick of the Month.
