Michael Carroll will present ‘An Evening of Classical Piano’

PORT TOWNSEND — Trinity United Methodist’s Candlelight Concerts will host Michael Carroll, a classical pianist, at the Candlelight Concert series at Trinity United Methodist Church at 7 p.m. tonight.

Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. at the church at 609 Taylor St., Port Townsend; masks are required for in-person attendees.

The performance also will be streamed live at https://trinityumcpt.org/concerts, where you can find a link for the Candlelight Concerts Online and ways to donate. The concert also will be simulcast on KPTZ FM 91.9.

Admission is free, with a suggested donation $15 per person.

Half of the proceeds from this concert will go to Carroll’s chosen charity, Jefferson County Food Banks.

Carroll’s concert program will include musical selections from Mozart, Schubert and Chopin.

“I tried to decide if there was a theme that would suggest why these composers go together, but I couldn’t except for the fact that they are all among the best piano pieces of their respective composers,” Carroll said.

Carroll began piano study when he was 8. He studied with several teachers, most notably Robert Van Meter at Clarion State College in Pennsylvania.

Since he moved to Seattle in 1990, he has played numerous recitals and chamber music performances and concertos by Haydn, Mozart, Poulenc and Bartok. For 10 years, he was also the staff pianist and program annotator for Seattle’s Thalia Symphony Orchestra.
