SEQUIM — The Olympic Peninsula Men’s Chorus has a new name: Juan de Fuca Harmony.
The Olympic Peninsula Men’s Chorus — a chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society, or BHS — has been a longtime staple on the North Olympic Peninsula.
It recently decided to include all singers, men and women, so the local chorus has “upgraded” its name to reflect this change, and to be all-inclusive for any adult wanting to sing in an a cappella group of mixed voices.
Members look forward to being a performing chorus that can welcome everyone, including couples who may want a hobby to share together.
Juan de Fuca Harmony is a BHS chapter that sings a cappella, four-part harmony, usually in the “barbershop style,” as well as other genres like pop and do-wop.
The original chapter re-chartered in 1983, and has been performing on the Peninsula ever since.
The group will celebrate its 40th anniversary next year.
Juan de Fuca Harmony is under the direction of Linda Muldowney. Rehearsals are held at 6:30 p.m. each Tuesday at Sunland Golf Club, 109 Hilltop Drive, Sequim.
