MCT to cast local children in ‘Alice in Wonderland’

SEQUIM — The Missoula Children’s Theatre, which is on a nationwide tour, will stop in Sequim on Monday to audition and cast local children in the musical “Alice in Wonderland” at the Sequim High School cafeteria.

Auditions will start at 3:30 p.m. in the cafeteria of the school at 601 N. Sequim Ave. They are open to children in kindergarten through 12th grade.

The musical will be presented by Olympic Theatre Arts and the Missoula Children’s Theatre at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14 in the high school auditorium.

Tickets will be $10 for adults and $5 for students.

The Missoula Children’s Theatre and its directors make their way all around the nation to cast local children in theater performances.

Since 2004, Sequim residents have participated in the performances and productions sponsored by Olympic Theatre Arts and MCT.

Carol Willis, executive director of Olympic Theatre Arts, said last year more than 80 local children auditioned for “Rapunzel.” Of the 80 who auditioned, 60 were cast in the show and four were chosen as backstage directors.

Willis said this opportunity allows children in the community to be “exposed to the magic of theater,” and have the chance to perform in a theater production.

Erin Dwyer, a Port Angeles Middle School student, is the featured pianist for the musical this year.

Some rehearsals will begin Monday. The rest of the rehearsals will be held as two, two-hour segments from Tuesday through Friday over the next week in the high school auditorium.
