‘May’s Vote’ performance available online

PORT TOWNSEND — Key City Public Theatre and the Jefferson County Historical Society will present virtual performances of “May’s Vote,” with the first this year set for 7 p.m. today.

The performance will be streamed from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at https://keycitypublictheatre.org/maysvote today, Friday, Sunday, April 8, April 10, April 15 and April 17.

KCPT will host a live introduction as well as a post-play discussion to bookend the performance.

Tickets are free; donations are welcome.

“May’s Vote,” initially performed in December, was written by Toni Douglass, directed by Brendan Chambers and performed by Barbara Callander as Emma Smith DeVoe and Denise Winter as May Arkwright Hutton.

The two very different women worked together to win the vote for women in Washington state in 1910, a decade before the 19th Amendment was ratified.

May’s Vote is produced by Key City Public Theatre in Port Townsend.

It is funded in part by the Washington State Women’s Commission and the Washington State Historical Society through the Votes for Women Centennial Grant Program, with additional support from the Jefferson County Library and Friends of the Port Townsend Library.
