Marine Thrift swap meet set Saturday

PORT TOWNSEND — The Marine Thrift Swap Meet — a springtime exchange of tools, hardware and boating gear — is set for Saturday at Marine Thrift, 315-B Haines Place in the Boat Haven.

Buying and selling will go on from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the gravel lot outside Marine Thrift, while the shop itself will also be open, said manager Jake Nassiri.

Those wanting to sell their used gear are asked to register in advance via the Northwest Maritime Center website at https://nwmaritime.org/swap-meet. It’s free to sell, but participants should bring their own tarps, tents and tables. At the end of the day, unsold items can be donated to Marine Thrift for a tax deduction.

Used tools, vintage and hard-to-find hardware, anything bronze — such as props and shackles — fenders, boat hooks, fasteners, light fixtures, select maritime antiques and instruments are welcome at Marine Thrift. Decor, electronics, sails and soft goods are not accepted.

As for arriving at the swap meet, Nassiri said sellers can drive up to the Marine Thrift lot to unload, but since Boat Haven parking is limited, he urges participants to use the Haines Place park-and-ride lot. That lot is across Sims Way behind Safeway.

Proceeds from the swap meet support the Northwest Maritime Center and its programs. The event is a way to clean out one’s garage or workshop, stock up on low-cost equipment and keep stuff out of the landfill, as the maritime center webpage notes.

Marine Thrift is also open for browsing and for donations of boating gear from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays.

For more information, phone the shop at 360-379-5807 or email info@marine thrift.com.
