COYLE — March to May will return to Coyle at 3 p.m. Sunday.
“This will be the fifth time that I have invited this amazing duo back to play in Coyle” at Concerts in the Woods, said series organizer Norm Johnson.
“That’s more than any other group in our 10-year history of hosting the Concerts in the Woods series.
“Each time I have struggled to find the right words to describe their incredibly beautiful music. I finally found a word that gets close: mellifluous” — meaning “sweet or musical; pleasant to hear.”
The concert will be at the Laurel B. Johnson Community Center, 923 Hazel Point Road, at the end of the Toandos Peninsula.
Admission will be by donation.
Complimentary cookies and coffee will be served at intermission.
March to May is made up of Beth Wesche on harp and Darren Guyaz on guitar and piano.
The two met in late December 2012. By March 2013 they had co-written their first two songs, by April they had a paid gig under their belts, and by May they had a name and shows booked out into the months ahead.
Two years and over 80 shows later, they released their debut EP, The Water’s Edge, to a sold-out show on a historic steamship.
Their single, “Embers,” was number one for 11 consecutive weeks on Y’allwire’s Y’allternative Music Video charts and won an Akademia Award for Best Pop / Singer-Songwriter Song in August 2015.
Since then, they’ve toured throughout the U.S., opening for internationally-touring acts such as I Draw Slow, The Brother Brothers, The von Trapps, Robert Wynia and 10 String Symphony.
In November 2015, they headlined and filled the house of The Triple Door in Seattle. In 2016, they were one of 12 official showcasing artists (of a fourteen-state/province region) at the 2016 FAR-West Folk Alliance conference, and their music video, “The Navigator” premiered on The Bluegrass Situation.
They released their debut album, Through the Night, in 2017.
They toured France, Switzerland and Italy last year and a few weeks ago they performed in Scandanavia.
Now they are recording a new album to be released soon.
