PORT ANGELES — Frequency, a Seattle-based string trio, will kick off the seventh season of the Maier Hall Concert Series on Thursday.
All of the four concerts in the series will begin at 7 p.m. at the Maier Concert Hall on the first floor of Maier Hall (E Building) on the Port Angeles Peninsula College campus at 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd.
Tickets are available from the Peninsula College bookstore at bookaneer.pen col.edu/Merchandise.aspx or at the door. General admission is $15, student admission (with ID) is $5, and a season subscription is $40.
Frequency — which is formed of artists from two acclaimed chamber groups, the Corigliano Quartet and Decoda — is a modular chamber music group, breaking into different parts to present solos, duos and trios while also expanding with guest artists to perform in a variety of formations.
Frequency members have performed as soloists and chamber musicians worldwide, in such concert halls as Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, Weill Recital Hall, Suntory Hall and Disney Hall.
Here is information about the other upcoming concerts:
• On Feb. 5, two founding members of Ensemble Electra, Vicki Boeckman (recorders) and Jillon Stoppels Dupree (harpsichord), will perform.
The early-music group will bring along Brazilian recorder player Cléa Galhano for an evening of music from Italy, Spain, Brazil and Argentina.
Boeckman and Galhano have taught and performed together at workshops across the nation. These performers have been associated with the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, Seattle Symphony Orchestra, York (England) Early Music Festival, Boston Early Music Festival, Seattle Baroque Orchestra, Portland Baroque Orchestra and other ensembles and festivals across the world.
The music for this concert will include compositions by Dario Castello, Biagio Marini, Astor Piazzolla and “Pixinguinha.”
• On April 23, Jennifer Nelson, who last appeared in 2013 on the Maier Hall Concert Series as the clarinetist of Trio Seraphim Trio, will perform with two colleagues of the PNW Trio: Wendy Wilhelmi (flute) and Francine Peterson (bassoon).
The three women have been friends and colleagues for decades, and are all busy freelance musicians in Seattle, organizers said.
Individually they have performed with most of the major orchestras and professional theaters in the Pacific Northwest region as well as playing on hundreds of recordings for motion pictures, television, and video games, organizers said.
At their performance they also will premiere “Triology” by Peninsula College faculty composer David P. Jones.
• On May 3, the St. Petersburg Men’s Ensemble, founded in 2003 as an independent group, will make its debut in the Maier Hall Concert Series.
The four men — Sergey Shapinskiy, Kirill Sokolov, Andrei Volikov and Vadim Smantser — all natives of Russia and all associated with choral ensembles in that country, bring “an authentic experience of Russian classical, folk and liturgical repertoire that is beyond description,” series organizers say.
The ensemble’s repertoire encompasses various musical periods and styles, from ancient Russian chants to chorales of Western and East European masters to modern contemporary.
