PORT LUDLOW — Auditions for the Ludlow Village Players spring production of “No Crime Like the Present” by Bill Gleason will be held from 5 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday at the Bay Club, 120 Spinnaker Place.
Audition packets that include application, character and plot descriptions and other audition materials are available for pick up at the Bay Club.
Production dates will be March 29-31 and April 5-7. Rehearsals will begin in the second week of January.
“No Crime Like the Present” is a camp comedy with zany characters of various adult ages, according to a news release.
According to organizers, the play is described as a 1940s female Sam-Spade meets a current-day television-news team.
In the story, the female anchorwoman on KDOA’s 6 p.m. news is on her way to the top and willing to step on anyone’s toes to get there.
She has made enough enemies to fill a phone book and she is iced. Mavis, a private eye, is on the case.
The characters include Mavis, a hard-boiled female private eye; Max, her musical soul mate; Slack, a homicide detective; Bronski, his female partner; Luther Preston, a male anchor at KDOA; Cassandra Dumont, a female anchor; Stan Van, weatherman at KDOA; Jennie Abbot, a consumer reporter; Jimmy Big, a sportscaster; Miles Hartley, KDOA station manager; Everett Nelson, mayor; Mrs. Big, organized crime matriarch and Olga Zaatz, a gypsy.
