‘Love Letters’ performed this weekend

PORT ANGELES — In an age of electronic communication the Port Angeles Community Players will present a play based on written communication.

“Love Letters” by A.R. Gurney, is comprised of letters exchanged throughout 50 years between two people who discuss their hopes and ambitions, dreams and disappointments, victories and defeats through the years they spent apart after growing up together.

Veteran actors Sharon Delabarre and George Wood, directed by BJ Kavanaugh, will perform the play at 7:30 tonight and Saturday night and again at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Tickets are not needed; audience members can pay what they will at the door of the Port Angeles Community Playhouse 1235 E. Lauridsen Blvd.

“What is implied as the actors read the letters is as revealing and meaningful as what is actually written down,” Kavanaugh said.

“It makes for evocative, touching, frequently funny and always telling character studies.”

“Love Letters” opened off Broadway in 1989 with Kathleen Turner and John Rubenstein. During the course of its 64 performances, a different cast performed each week.

It continues to be produced throughout the country with rotating casts, and is often performed by actors who are husband and wife.
