Lisa Sanders Band to perform at Concerts in the Woods

COYLE — The Lisa Sanders Band will bring country blues to Concerts in the Woods at 3 p.m. Sunday.

Series organizer Norm Johnson said he was fortunate to book the band while it was on West Coast tour that began in San Diego, Calif.

“We’ve been delving into the world of blues for the past several concerts, and this is yet another branch of that genre,” Johnson said. “Blues lovers are in for a treat with this one.”

The concert of Lisa Sanders and Karen “Brown Sugar” Hayes will be at the Laurel B. Johnson Community Center, 923 Hazel Point Road. Admission will be by donation. Complimentary cookies and coffee will be served at intermission.

Born in Philadelphia, Pa., Sanders began singing with her older brother Ty at an early age., according to her biography at www.lisasanders.com.

The family relocated to Newfoundland, where her parents encouraged music daily. Upon moving to Southern California, Sanders signed to Cargo Earth Records and released her first album, “Isn’t Life Fine.”

After her second album, “Life Takes You Flying,” was released in 1999, Sanders went on to establish her own label, Maya Jade Records, in 2004. She has since released five albums from her own label.

Hayes has been singing since high school. After the two met and became friends, Sanders noticed that Hayes knew all of her songs and had an amazing sense of harmony, the biography says.

“They have since become a musical powerhouse,” the biography says.

The two are touring in support of their eighth CD release, “Shiver,” which has been nominated for San Diego Music Awards Best Pop Album.
