Libraries to host series on sanctuary otters

As part of Clallam County Reads, the North Olympic Library System will host a series of talks on sea otters in the Olympic Coast National Marine Sanctuary at all branches.

Presentations are scheduled for 2 p.m. today at the Clallam Bay Library, 16990 state Highway 112; 6 p.m. today at the Forks Library, 171 S. Forks Ave.; 11 a.m. Saturday at the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St.; and at 2 p.m. the same day at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave.

Jessie Hale, a doctoral student at the University of Washington and recipient of a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Dr. Nancy Foster Scholarship, will discuss the history of sea otters in Washington, as well as her research investigating what sea otters eat and what it tells us about the health of the population.

A community-wide shared reading experience, Clallam County Reads offers free, educational and community-building events and programs during October and November related to the official selection, “The Soul of an Octopus” by Sy Montgomery.
