Levy collection to be featured in Port Townsend Library

PORT TOWNSEND — Northwind Arts Center will hold its latest Art in the Library opening reception at the Port Townsend Public Library from 6 to 7:30 tonight.

The new exhibit at the library at 1220 Lawrence St. is free and open to the public through Feb. 15.

Library visitors will enjoy art from the private collection of Elaine and Rene Levy displayed throughout the library, as well as small bird oil paintings by artist Musa Jaman displayed in the Charlie Moore Art Case.

A piece from recently deceased artist and tapestry weaver Inge Norgaard will be exhibited in her honor.

Elaine Levy and her late husband collected art for their Port Townsend home for many years, organizers said.

Their home was a showcase for the visual arts, largely art created by local artists, they said.

The Levys collected many paintings by their neighbor and well-known artist Lee Katzenbach, whose colorful work will be featured in the Carnegie Building’s historic and well-lit stairwell.

The collection on exhibit also will feature work by Ed Cain, Max Grover, JP Jones, Daniel Kerkhoff, Elaine Levy, Jeane Myers, Carol Heath Stabile, Barbara Thomson, Lucy Vane, Chris Witkowski and Stephen Yates.

In addition, art associated with The 1004 Gallery founding artists will be exhibited at the opening reception.

Sales revenue from the exhibit will benefit Elaine Levy, who has returned to her family in Illinois, and Northwind Arts Center.
