Lecture on language of plants among Monday’s activities

A fundraiser for a class trip and a lecture on the language of plants are among Monday’s activities on the North Olympic Peninsula.

Cafe takeover

JOYCE — The Spanish 3 class at Crescent High School will conduct the last fundraiser for its trip to Costa Rica from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday.

The students will takeover the Blackberry Cafe, 50530 state Highway 112.

The students are attempting to raise funds to cover the cost of travel to and from Seattle-Tacoma Airport for their trip scheduled for the end of the month.

SEQUIM

Garden Club meets

SEQUIM — Pam Lawson will present Volatile Language of Plants” at a meeting of the Sequim Prairie Garden Club from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Monday.

The monthly meetings are in the clubhouse at Pioneer Memorial Park, 387 E. Washington St.

Lawson, founder of Sequim Organic Gardeners, will discuss the key language a plant uses to communicate within itself as well as with other plants, microbes, insect friends and pests.

The public is invited to this free meeting.

Book lover’s cafe

PORT TOWNSEND — The Book Lovers’ Cafe will discuss “Whiskey When We’re Dry” by John Larison at 2 p.m. Monday.

The free group meets monthly in the Charles Pink House, 1256 Lawrence St.

The novel is the 2020 Port Townsend Community Read book

In April the group will discuss “The Woman’s Hour: The Great Fight to Win the Vote” by Elaine Weiss.
