PORT ANGELES — Washington Lavender Farm will host the last days of its 10-day festival this weekend.
The farm at 965 Finn Hall Road in Agnew between Port Angeles and Sequim, began its free festival July 13.
“Due to the nagging congestion and repeated traffic-related issues on Highway 101 and the Old Olympic Highway over the Sequim Lavender Weekend, the owners want to help spread out the traffic in a more tourist-friendly way that will allow visitors to choose more than just one weekend of festivities,” said Dan Abbott, co-owner of the farm with his wife Janet, on the Washington Lavender Festival Facebook page.
“The festival weekend has grown beyond capacity for a three-day event,” he said. “In the spirit of cooperation, the opportunity to grow the Washington Lavender Festival will also help other lavender farmers to break free from the constraints of a single weekend and the proliferation of other events that are now on the community event calendar for that weekend.”
At 1 p.m. Saturday, the farm will offer a seminar by Steve Lyon, director of field research, plant breeder and agronomist with the WSU Bread Lab, on growing heritage grains and incorporating them with culinary lavender.
Through Sunday, lavender oil distillation and crafts will be available in addition to a host of vendors who will be on site, according to the farm’s owners.
