LAKE QUINAULT — Fifteen artisans will display their wares at the inaugural Lake Quinault Spring Market and Bazaar on Saturday.
The bazaar, hosted by Lake Quinault Community Circle and Lake Quinault Museum, will be from noon to 5 p.m. at the Lake Quinault Museum at 354 S. Shore Road in Lake Quinault.
Vendors will sell arts and crafts of all types, jewelry, fresh herbs and vegetables, and honey products.
Live guitar and ukulele performances will be offered as well as face painting for children.
Alison Carlyle, Lake Quinault Community Circle vice president and event coordinator, plans to make the spring market and bazaar an annual event.
“I remember being a kid, growing up here in Quinault, and there were always different bazaars and community events,” she said.
‘Sense of community’
“There was such a sense of community here, such closeness and camaraderie — people always being there for each other.
“That’s still here to some degree, but it’s kind of died a little. You know, people move away and retire, things change. But I want to bring that closeness and sense of community back.”
The Lake Quinault Community Circle, started in the 1930s, has been reactivated after becoming inactive several years ago, Carlyle said.
It is working on several fundraising and community projects, including the annual Quinault Bike Ride for Cancer, coming up June 24.
This weekend also kicks off the start of the Lake Quinault Museum’s summer season.
The museum is partnering with the Grays Harbor Museum Association to kick off the Passport to Grays Harbor History Program.
Starting Saturday, participating history museums across the county will offer passport books as well as unique stamps for visitors to collect.
