Kids Create Art program resumes at Sequim Library this Saturday

SEQUIM — The “Kids Create Art” program series will resume at the Sequim Library on Saturday.

The introductory art workshops will be from 10:30 a.m. to noon every third Saturday of the month, January through May.

All workshops in the series are free, but with class sizes limited, preregistration is required.

Led by local artists, each Kids Create Art session — recommended for ages 7 to 12 — will offer participants an opportunity to explore various artistic media. All materials will be provided.

This Saturday, Sequim artist Carrie Rodlend will offer young artists an opportunity to learn and practice monoprinting. Attendees will paint an iceberg landscape, learn how to draw a penguin, create a cardboard stamp and print penguins in their environment.

On Feb. 18, Rodlend will lead participants in creating an authentic-looking pirate map — aged, folded and crinkled.

The class will spend time understanding islands and their geographic features, learning how to illustrate maps and creating a personal key.

The March 18 session will have artists illustrating lighthouses and, in the process, learning about light values.

Rodlend will work alongside students to help them understand form, shape, perspective and texture while using pencil, watercolor and oil pastel.

To register, visit the Sequim Library events calendar at www.nols.org, call 360-683-1161 or send an email to youth@nols.org.
