Kathryn Claire to perform in Port Townsend

PORT TOWNSEND — Kathryn Claire will return on Saturday to Port Townsend with her trio to celebrate the new year, new music, and a new EP, and at a new venue.

The performance will be at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Fort Worden State Park, Building 305, South Gallery in Port Townsend. Tickets to the Rainshadow Concert are $20 each online at https://www.ticketstorm.com/e/27656/t/ or $25 at the door.

Claire — a violinist, guitar player, singer and songwriter — will be joined by Don Henson on piano and percussion and Sid Ditson on violin and viola. Both have recorded, performed and toured with her for many years and recorded on her full-length album “Eastern Bound for Glory” released in February 2020.

The trio has also toured in the Pacific Northwest for many years during the month of December sharing a seasonally themed show called “Winter Songs.”

After a two-year hiatus, the trio reunited in December 2022 for shows in the Pacific Northwest and released a corresponding EP titled “Winter Songs.”

With her violin and voice at the center of her music, Claire weaves together stories and melodies rooted in her classical and traditional musical background.

“Her musicality and joy on stage is infectious. Honest and poetic writing, crystalline vocals, impassioned violin compositions, and an ability to move seamlessly across genres, are the hallmark of Kathryn Claire’s original and diverse sound,” organizers said.

Claire performed at the Juan de Fuca Festival of the Arts in 2016 and in Port Townsend in 2018. She said she is thrilled to return to Port Townsend, according to a press release.

She will perform winter-inspired songs from the new EP and previous albums, along with fiddle tunes and original songs.

Claire has toured and taught in the U.S., Japan, The Netherlands, India, Belgium and France. Henson has toured with Claire in the Pacific Northwest. He works frequently with Will West and Skip Vonkuske in Portland, Ore. His band, “Sneakin Out,” has played various stages with Pink Martini, on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and had the honor of playing Carnegie Hall.

Diston has toured with Claire in Belgium and the Netherlands and has been an integral part of her music over the past decade. He has been playing violin since childhood. Classical, indie, bluegrass, Celtic and improv are all a part of his palette.
