Joe Euro to pluck innovate guitar pieces this Thursday

PORT TOWNSEND — Joe Euro, a Port Townsend entrepreneur and classical guitarist, will appear in the Candlelight Concert series at Trinity United Methodist Church at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. at the church at 609 Taylor St.

Admission is by a suggested $10 donation, with children admitted free. Proceeds will benefit local Port Townsend agencies and Trinity’s music and historic Victorian restoration program.

Refreshments will be served following the performance.

The performance will include acoustic, instrumental classical finger-style guitar featuring many of Euro’s original “neo-classical” compositions and some of his “ambient space guitar.”

Euro’s selections are played on at least four different guitars that are all in different tunings.

His guitar technique features various open-tunings often with some reach-over hammer-ons and pulls-offs where he literally plays two parts at once.

The performance will include pieces plucked from the classical guitar repertoire; tunes of light instrumental jazz by Monk, Jobim, Fernando Sor and Luis Banfa; and possibly even a bit of the blues.

Euro will also play a number of his original works from his five previously released CDs, which will be available for purchase at the performance.

The first three — “The High Road” (1994), “Eyes on the Horizon” (2002) and “Souvenir” (2008) — also are all available on iTunes, Amazon, CD Baby, Rhapsody, MP3 Tunes and Spotify.
