Joe Euro to perform at Candlelight Concert in Port Townsend

PORT TOWNSEND — Joe Euro, a Port Townsend entrepreneur and classical guitarist, will appear in the Candlelight Concert series at Trinity United Methodist Church at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Doors will open at 6 p.m. at the church at 609 Taylor St., across from the Community Center.

Admission is by a suggested $10 donation with children admitted free.

The funds will benefit local Port Townsend agencies and Trinity’s music and historic Victorian restoration program.

Refreshments will be served following the performance.

‘Finger-style’ guitar

The performance will include acoustic, instrumental, classical “finger-style” guitar, featuring many of Euro’s original “neo-classical” compositions and some of his “ambient space guitar.”

Euro plays on at least four guitars which are all in different tunings. They often include a Takamine classical; an ovation (black top classical) or the new yamaha classical with cutaway guitar, the greg sammick steel string “jumbo” euro calls “big red” and last, but not least the “open bodied frame and neck, folding “travel guitar,” a classical nylon string guitar made by yamaha.

“I have been featured and in various levels of ‘Rotation’ on several NPR and PRI syndicated radio shows, such as ‘Echoes’ PRI where I also was featured in a LIVE Living Room Concert show, they actually flew up, rented a car drove out to Port Townsend and turned my living room into a radio, recording studio,” Ero said.

“Had to shut the windows and have no ice in any beverages, to keep noises down, but, as I recall, it was a rather warm August day.”

Euro has studied or taken part in master classes with Scottish classical guitarist David Russell, Rosewood Guitar founders Gary Bissirri and Steve Novechek, and Brazilian jazz performer Laurindo Almeida of the LA 4. Euro performed with the late Bud Shank, also of LA 4 fame, at Jazz Port Townsend a number of years back.

Five CDs

Euro has five CDs out now, the first three — “The High Road” (1994), “Eyes on the Horizon” (2002), and “Souvenir” (2008) — are all available on iTunes, Amazon, CD Baby, Rhapsody, MP3 Tunes and Spotify. He has two other CDs, “Sampler” and “Holiday Cheer.” Euro will have CDs for sale at the concert.
