Jazz, virtual reality set on Peninsula for Friday

A jazz concert and virtual reality sessions are among Friday’s activities on the North Olympic Peninsula.

Jazz concert

PORT TOWNSEND — Scott Cossu will perform from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Friday.

The concert will be at Rainshadow Recording, Building 315 at Fort Worden State Park.

Cossu, a jazz pianist and flutist, will be joined by Holly Reeves, the principal cellist of the Olympia Symphony Orchestra.

Tickets are $15 per person and can be purchased online at scottcossupt.brownpapertickets.com.

First Friday lecture

PORT TOWNSEND — Heidi Yantz will present “STEM and Women who Persevered” from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday.

Yantz’s lecture is in the Maritime Meeting Room at the Northwest Maritime Center, 431 Water St.

The presentation is part of the First Friday Lecture Series sponsored by the Jefferson County Historical Society.

Admission is $10 per person, season passes are available for $80 per person, $65 per person for society members.

Doors open for season pass holders for a reception at 6 p.m.

Friday StoryNight

PORT TOWNSEND — Loren Niemi will present “Bad Brothers: Religion and Politics” at 7 p.m. Friday.

The event is part of the First Friday StoryNight series held at the Port Townsend Friends Meeting, 1841 Sheridan St.

Niemi will recount how he went into a religious order as a Catholic and came out a Buddhist with an FBI file.

He will be followed by an open mic segment, five-minute limit for each.

Suggested donation is $10 per person.

iPod shuffle dance

PORT TOWNSEND — Abakis and Friends will host iPod shuffle couples dancing from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday.

The dance will be at Quimper Grange, 1219 Corona St.

Admission is free, donations will be accepted.

Dance styles may include swing, cha-cha, waltz, foxtrot and salsa at the whim of the iPod. No partner is required.

Trivia on tap

CHIMACUM — Jefferson County Library will host a trivia night from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday.

The competition will be at the 101 Brewery at Twana Roadhouse, 294793 U.S. Highway 101.

This month’s featured titles are the book “Born a Crime” by Trevor Noah and the 2006 film “Akeelah and the Bee.”

An extra point will be awarded to each team that presents members’ library cards.

Attendees must be 21 years or older.

Virtual reality

PORT HADLOCK — A virtual reality session is set for 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday.

The session will be in the Humphrey Room at the Jefferson County Library, 620 Cedar Ave.

Since virtual reality (VR) has potential safety concerns, participants must be 13 years or older.

Adult participants must sign a release waiver, and each participant between 13 and 18 must have a parent sign a release waiver.

Dance concert

SEQUIM — Sequim Elks will host a dance and concert from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday.

The dance is at the Elks Lodge, 143 Port Williams Road.

Music will be performed by the Cool Jam and the Marmalades playing classic rock with a Beatles focus.

Admission is $10 per person, $8 for Elks members.

Adventure travel

PORT ANGELES — Rebecca Wanagel and Alan Carter Mortimer will present “Trails for Everyone, Forever: Hike the State with the Washington Trails Association” from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday.

The presentation is part of the Olympic Discovery Trail’s Adventure Travel series at the Port Angeles Senior and Community Center, 328 E. Seventh St.

The presentation was originally scheduled for Jan. 17 when it was postponed due to snow and adverse road conditions.

Admission is by a $5 donation.
