Jazz pianist to perform at Concerts in the Woods

COYLE — Jazz pianist Ted Brancato will bring four decades of experience performing, composing, arranging and recording jazz to Saturday’s Concert in the Woods.

The all-ages concert, by donation, begins at 7:30 p.m. at Laurel B. Johnson Community Center, 923 Hazel Point Road.Complimentary cookies and coffee will be served at intermission.

Brancato has performed and recorded with the likes of Houston Person, Ron Carter, Christian McBride, Milt Jackson, Ernestine Anderson and Paquito D’Rivera, among others.

“This is going to be a real treat for jazz lovers from all over Jefferson County,” organizer Norm Johnson said.

After more than 30 years in New York City, Brancato released his first solo album, “The Next Step,” in 2013.

The album contains 14 originals that also feature the artistry of Ron Carter on bass, Terry Silverlight on drums and Matt Langley on sax. It spans a stylistic palette, from straight-ahead jazz to rhythm and blues, and a bit of folk to boot.

His second album, “Bicoastal,” includes several originals composed while Brancato was living on the shores of Dabob Bay in Quilcene during the winter and spring of 2016.

The 2017 album features master musicians Lou Marini on sax (from the original Blues Brothers Band), Lee Finkelstein on drums, Gregory Jones on bass and Ben Williams on trombone. Four songs showcase Brancato’s newly honed skills as a vocalist.
