Jazz on the Lawn offered free on Monday

PORT ANGELES — The Thirteenth Annual Jazz on the Lawn concert on the Port Angeles campus of Peninsula College will be at noon Monday.

The free 90-minute concert will be on the terraced lawn just east of the “M” building (Keegan Hall) on the campus at 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd., Port Angeles.

In case of serious rain, the cafeteria area inside the PUB just north of the lawn will be our alternative venue.

Audience members are urged to bring blankets or lawn chairs for seating. The Bookaneer Market & Deli in the J Building will serve lunch items or people can bring their own picnics of food and non-alcoholic beverages.

Appropriate Covid protocols (mostly judicious distancing from members of other households) will be in place. Vaccinations and masks are not required.

The PC Jazz Ensemble features 11 horns and four rhythm instruments.

Robbin Eaves of Joyce will be the featured vocalist with the 15-piece jazz band. She will sing “You Don’t Know What Love Is,” “Corcovado” and the 1931 Ozzie Nelson hit — later revamped by “Mama” Cass Elliot — “Dream a Little Dream of Me.”

The band will play a wide variety of music: compositions by Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Bill Holman, Thad Jones, John Lewis and Jose Diaz will all be heard; as well as four world premieres by conductor David P. Jones.

Performers are form across the North Olympic Peninsula.

From Port Angeles are Kevin McCartney (tenor sax/alto flute), Jim Bradbury and Joel Ricci (trumpet/flugelhorn), Ken Young (trombone), Arisa Tone (piano), Mya Hartman (bass), Sal Michael (drums) and Jones (keyboards/director).

From Sequim are Jayne Morrison (alto sax), Anton Hilmisson (alto/baritone saxes), Jeff Fox (tenor sax), Dan James (trumpet), Jeff Dingle and Tom Hartig(trombone), while John Adams (alto sax and bass clarinet) commutes from Port Townsend.
